Crash and Burn

Image
Crash and Burn  was released on the bonus disk of the Smoke and Mirrors album, Lifehouse's fifth album.      There are a few different speculations on the meaning of the song, but I believe the most popular, which is that the protagonist is struggling, knowing he's not who he could and should be, and his attempt to change himself for the better. Either way, the song is amazing, with awesome lyrics and great sound. All these nights are catching up to me I just can't put insomnia to sleep I close my eyes but all that I can see Is someone who I'm never gonna be I hope that you can bring me back I gotta make it right And if I fall and crash and burn At least we both know that I tried And as I crawl there's lessons learned Yeah they remind me I survived Yeah yeah yeah Silence just keeps screaming back at me The ones I love are lost in memories And I wish that I could take back what was done You can only change the person you become I have to try and find a way To le

Pins and Needles

Image
The song Pins and Needles  was released with Lifehouse's uncharacteristic Almeria album. The album was released in 2012 and seemed to take on a more western-style tone. Interestingly enough, the album Almeria  was named after a town of the same name, in which were filmed a bunch of westerns. It makes sense then, for the album to have a more western feel to it and a sick-looking cowboy-themed cover.     The song Pins and Needles  seems to follow a person who has been rejected by his girlfriend. He is apologetic and anxiously waits for her to change her mind and start over. The song is rather upbeat and has a super catchy beat, which makes it less than depressing, an interesting one all around.  Were we always headed for disaster? Was I only trying to slow it down? Instead we're going nowhere faster Did I run you right out of town? Tonight, turn the leaf over I'll try my best to keep it simple All I know, is for all of us We couldn't be sinking any lower And I alway

Who we Are

Image
Who we Are is the namesake of the fourth album released by Lifehouse in June of 2007. It is a very passionate song, and the band said that it's about the personal struggles they faced. Jason Wade was struggling to find his place in the music world and admitted that he had been writing songs that people wanted to hear rather than songs that were true to himself. The song was a statement that he would continue to be true to himself and not be corrupted by the musical world. Live my life around a picture taken when we met Spending all of my time chasing your silhouette. For all we go through I don't wanna change you Cause my mind's running in reverse trying not to forget Who we were Where it's at Here we go And we break And we burn And we turn it inside out To take it back To the start And through the rise and falling apart We discover who we are Struggling with my thoughts Change the locks inside my head Reading between the lines Of what you say and what you said I tu

Wrecking Ball

Image
Wrecking Ball  is an easily identifiable song on Lifehouse's Smoke and Mirrors album. Lead singer Jason Wade had the bass player Bryce Soderberg take the lead on this song, and let me say, he did an amazing job. This is one of my favorite Lifehouse songs.     Soderberg said the song was originally about 'Getting swept under the rug'. The term commonly means hiding a problem rather than confronting it, but Soderbeg says 'Getting' swept under the rug. Interpret that as you will.     The song has a really catchy beat (kudos to the guitarist), and has a lot of 'oh's' in it. You'll figure out what I mean when you listen to the song.  I'm alone Wandering in your space Waiting for a sign of life Looking so out of place And then you whisper to me It doesn't matter what you say I feel the weight against the wind, the demolition of me caving in And I'm always swinging on this wrecking ball While you're building up and breaking down my wall

Midnight in Philadelphia

Image
Midnight in Philadelphia is one of those Lifehouse songs that has a vague name, like Simon, and Better Luck Next Time. It was released in 2005, but not as a part of any albums. There are different opinions on what the song is about. Some people think it's about God, but some of the lyrics suggest otherwise. Others think it's still about lead singer Jason Wade's father leaving his family when they divorced, but I personally think it's about a death. You hear lyrics I know that you are watching me somewhere over the moon shouting down that you love me wondering why I can't hear you.     Either way, Midnight in Philadelphia is a quiet and beautiful song with deep lyrics. Lifehouse as a band was known for their deep and thought-provoking lyrics, which they have in every one of their songs. That's what makes them such a great band. I know what it's like to hide To sit in your room and break down and cry And all I could say was your name I've had my share

In Your Skin

Image
In Your Skin was released with the album Smoke and Mirrors  in 2010. The song is about three and a half minutes long, and has a really catchy beat, as do most of their songs. In Your Skin  seems to be about self-denial, somebody trying to be somebody else. Throwing stones. breaking bones Then wonder why you run for cover You fight the world from inside Laying down, playing dead Turn the pages just another wasted day in your mind You live to run away But fear is the hardest act to follow Let me let you in Hold on another day  Face the truth, it's hard to swallow It's time to begin There's only one life In your skin Wake up, take a breath Remember why you're even breathing You're still alive Give in, give it up You're the only one believing In all of your lies You live to run away But fear is the hardest act to follow Let me let you in Hold on another day  Face the truth, it's hard to swallow It's time to begin There's only one life In your skin I

Better Luck Next Time

Image
Why don't we start off this blog with a song from Lifehouse's third album, Lifehouse.  This song is called Better Luck Next Time, and was released March 22nd, 2005 and was not one of the two singles on the album. It is thought that this song is about how lead singer Jason Wade's parents divorced when he was ten, and it badly hurt him emotionally. Sometimes we fall Ain't nothing new to me Don't get me wrong I must say you gave up for this time now Stop, tell me where you going Maybe the one you love isn't there You're going under But you're over it all so you don't Care about all that I had to see I'd watch you wait until you come around Around Don't close your eyes You need to see it all It's no surprise That they break you down At least they won't give you up Stop, tell me where you going Maybe the one you love isn't there You're going under But you're over it all so you don't Care about all that I had to see I&#
